Mathias Baier calls the Staatskapelle Berlin his home team. This principal bassoonist is a member of a number of other groups, such as the Wind Soloist of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra, the Berliner Bassoon Quartet, the Berliner Wind Soloist and Ensemble Blumina, to name only a few. He is a professor for bassoon and chamber music at the Musikhochschule für Musik und Theater in Rostock, where he guides young musicians on their journey to become professionals. Among the many recordings featuring his superb artistry is the most recently released CD of the sonata for bassoon by the Polish-Jewish composer Mieczyslaw Weinberg on the cpo label.
